Interesting People Only

Interesting People. Only.

Some people have said to me, "Josh, you're already at the top of your game. Why start a social networking site for interesting people?" I'll tell you why: I dream big.

Seriously, my dreams are huge. I've already conquered all my other goals. Go to space? Check! Record an album with Neil Sedaka? Done! And now I've moved on to Interesting People Only.com.

See that, MySpace? Take that, Facebook! Check and mate!

only one I'd ever join. I have been waiting for this.

In Heterology (1930) Bataille presented the following arguments: there is positive value to excrement, waste, and intellectual scatology; change and excretion lead to understanding and meaning through varying degrees of violence, excess, and disruption; the product of appropriation is homogenous, in that it is confined and offers a false reality based on security of form, material possessions and power within society’s structures; and heterogeneity is the result of excretion and the purging of philosophical thought (Rivkin.273-275). “Heterology,” he explained, “is restricted to taking up again, consciously and resolutely”(Rivkin.275-276).
Bataille believed that in order for change or revolution to occur, there has to be a recognition that “appropriation” is all that has been given to us as meaningful, such as values, morality, and tradition must be questioned. The individual has to experience “excretion” a type of revolution that is purging, in which one questions and lets go of all that has been given to him or her as meaning. The product of the excretion is then eliminated or “taken up” again according to its value as deemed by the individual. It is taken up “resolutely” and therefore, changed. The individual creates his own reality anew (Rivkin.273-276).
